Faith and Todd finally received their referral for
their new baby daughter on July 8th at 11:30 am. Here is the
information that they received about Elise (LiXiang) from the adoption
agency:
Her name is Li Xiang Dong - or Elise Lixiang Emory ... She was left at the YangDong County Social Welfare Institute in the province of GuangDong on October 22, 2002. This is also the date listed as her birthdate.
So, she's about 8 months old now. She looks very healthy from the reports and a bit on the chunky side as you can see from the photos. Apparently 25% on height and H.C. & 75% on weight.
Faith and Todd are very excited to get to go meet
her, hopefully in early August. And her big sister Lydia talks
about her every day!

Update
From China |
Hello from Guangzhou, China
It is 2:30 p.m. in China on Tuesday. We picked the babies up yesterday at 2:30 p.m. at a civil affairs office near here. The babies are great! They all had little illnesses. We took them to the doctor in the hotel & all had ear infections, rashes, etc. Elise was very playful when we got her & was so for a few hours as we filled out paperwork, paid fees, and got a traveling visa I believe. When we got back the the hotel after 5:00 she was tired and had a hard time for a little while. We then took her to the doctor learned she had an ear infection in one ear & maybe a little bit of bronchitis. She's only coughed a little so we're not sure about that.
She is very playful. She likes to tilt her head from side to side and smiles a lot. She also clicks her tongue in play. She's very conscious of noises and likes to play with her hands. I imagine that's been one of her few toys for a while. The workers who brought her to us really smiled at her a lot and played with her with the back and forth head movements that she enjoys doing. We did not get back the cameras we had sent - well actually we did get them back, but they had not been opened.
Elise slept very well last night, but did not eat for us before she slept. She did take some formula this morning - our friends lent us some Chinese formula to mix with our Enfamil. I figured if she got hungry enough she would eat. She's again only eaten about 1/2 a bottle this morning. She and Todd are taking a nap now - and I thought I'd send out a note to keep you updated. We went to a Chinese super WalMart type market today to buy some more Chinese formula items for Elise.
I think Elise did accept us very quickly. The eating is the only concern right now. She looks to be about 17 1/2 lbs. We weighed her last night, but I forgot (it's in kilograms & all the converting keeps me confused.) Well, hopefully you have seen some photos that we've sent or are sending soon. There is a couple from Tulsa who have been here a week longer than us picking up their daughter, and they've been very helpful to us. They came to the civil affairs office to help us take photos, etc. Which was great. Okay...
Yes, she has quite a bit of hair - but isn't quite as chunky as her last picture. Email me if you'd like. There is a shop down the street from the hotel that has computers that can be used for free - and we've already bought some things from them - so we don't feel bad using their computers. Okay, love to all! Todd, Faith, & Elise
